The UCSD School of Medicine is fairly young when it comes to medical schools, with the inaugurating class graduating in 1972.

Despite its youth, UCSD has made tremendous contributions to medicine, biomedical science and patient-centered care for decades, both in our community and around the globe. UCSD is a leader in translational research and is at the forefront of innovation, technology, and resourcefulness; collaborating with medical schools and hospitals around the country to make the future of medicine brighter.  But while all those things are important, what truly powers its students' passion for medicine and excellence, in and out of the classroom, is our UCSD SOM community. And, perhaps a little bit of San Diego sunshine.

UCSD medical students care. They care about their patients, they care about their future, and they care about each other. Whether it is in fact the sunshine or simply the incredible students we have here, there is a calmness in the way we approach difficult situations and a sense of support when the going gets tough.

Further, the UCSD School of Medicine gives its students tremendous autonomy and guidance, helping them shape their future in a way that reflects each student's specific interests and passions. There is a balance of creativity, independence and support that gives students the tools and confidence they need to succeed on their own, but also the mentorship needed to keep things moving forward.

At UCSD we feel that we are the architects of our shared future in medicine. UCSD is a place where we can continue to explore our passions inside and outside of medicine, growing both as people and physicians, united for our future patients. We hope you love it as much as we do!
