UCSD SOM is brimming with student leaders and allies who support diversity, equity, and inclusion on our campus. In 2018, the UCSD Class of 2020 broadened the scope for student representation of minority and underrepresented groups by establishing the position of Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion on our student council. This expansion establishes and underscores support for several organizations and infrastructures at UCSD, some of which we have listed here. We also have organizations supporting organizations, such as MS4J (Medical Students for Justice). These groups drive community engagement and equity efforts from the campus to the national and even global level.

Headed by dean Maria ("Happy") Araneta, UCSD SOM's Office of Diversity and Community Partnerships supports innovative programs that enhance the academic, clinical, scholarly and advocacy skills of middle school, high school, community college, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate and medical students. Learn more about their amazing programs and partnerships here.

Intersectionality is complex and we as medical students never stop exploring it. Whether we're celebrating Dia de los Meurtos, hosting Black History Month events, participating in the Rainbow Pin Ceremony, or promoting Implicit Bias panels, diversity initiatives are a big part of what we do and what we want to see in medicine.
